Staff Development and Workshop
On June 26, Image staff took part in an intensive workshop facilitated by choreographer, dancer, and teacher Michelle Silagy. Silagy brought with her a wealth of experience and knowledge from her role as Director of the Young Dancers’ Program at the School of Toronto Dance Theatre, as well as her work with DanceAbility International. The workshop, coordinated by Image Artistic Director Claudia Otto, was designed specifically for Image staff with a focus on improvisational contemporary dance, and took place at the Thunder Bay Art Gallery, where participants were surrounded by the inspirational art of Sonny Assu, and accompanied by live musicians Chad Irschick and David MacDougall.

Dancers found themselves challenged both physically and mentally throughout the workshop, and left feeling exhilarated, gratified, and excited to share their new learning. Upon reflection, staff identified how their prior training and work together at Image allowed them to quickly step up to the tasks in the workshop, reading each other and working well together in an improvisational setting. Staff left inspired to continue to challenge themselves, and to introduce elements from the workshop into their own dancing, as well as into their work with the dancers in their classes at Image School of Dance.

danceOur Dancers Write...
"Dancing in Image lets me use movement to express the deepest spiritual and emotional parts of who I am. It has also reconnected me to the sacredness of our bodies. It's magical."
Hanusia Tkaczyk

"Dancing with Image lifts my spirits, infuses me with joy and make me want to 'dance like there's no one watching'. I know I've had a good time when our Monday night session ends and I feel I could have gone on another two hours. It gives me an energy that at my age I didn't know I had!"
Llyne Williams

"I have always had so much respect for Claudia's and Image's intent to create a dance studio that is open to all, no matter what size, shape, or dance experience! That wonderful inclusiveness creates a place to bring our joys and concerns and dance them!"
Kim Erickson.
